THE ARTS OF NORTH RIDGE
Ken and Pat Klitzman are originally from the Madison Wisconsin area.  Vacations were
almost always spent in Door County and they soon fell in love with its unique setting.  In
1999, they made Door County, Wisconsin their permanent home.  Ken and Pat’s dream
was to pursue their artistic talents and become full time artists.
Nestled at the north edge of their wooded property, is a beautiful ridge, thus, The Arts of
North Ridge was born.
Ken and Pat’s art work is very unique in its style. All pieces are Original and signed.
Custom work is accepted.
Pat began her carving career after Ken
gave her a carving book, carving knife and
a piece of basswood.  Basswood,
Cypress Knees and Cottonwood are now
her woods of choice.  Her subject matter
includes not only the old world Santa but
nautical and folk figures.  She loves to
incorporate both quilting designs and
nature into her carvings.  Each piece is an
original and painted with oils and sealed
with a clear acrylic.  The carving is then
allowed to dry for several days and buffed
to a rich finish.  All pieces are signed by
the artist.
Ken has developed a form of art
expression that he calls  "Sand Art".  It
consists of layers of beach sand and glue
over wood or glass.  The glue is painted in
a specific design, be it a lighthouse, trees,
or leaves, then covered with sand. The
process is repeated until the desired
depth of relief is achieved.  Staining,
highlighting and sealing complete the
work of art.  Ken also incorporates his
paint etching and pen and ink into the
process. The Lake Michigan Peninsula
and its surroundings have also influenced
his choice of subject.
