The cypress knee is one of natures most exquisite and natural wonders. The knee grows
from the root of the Bald Cypress tree in the swamps and bayous of Southern USA. The
knee is a part of the root system which grows above the water and serves to supply
oxygen to the trees. The bald cypress tree is a conifer which sheds its needles each fall.
The knees take on unusual shapes and appear like gnomes on the forest floor. No two
knees are alike and each knee has its own shape and size. Mother nature truly sculptured
the Cypress Knee into works of art that cannot be equalled by man. No one will ever have
a Cypress Knee exactly like yours.
Prior to carving, the bark is removed and cleaned from each root. The skin of the cypress
root is golden brown in color. This natural beauty of the wood is often incorporated into
the design of the carvings.
Each carving is an original which is painted with a combination of oil and Acrylic paint.
The piece is than hand buffed and signed by the artist.
These cypress have an Amish quilting design painted on the skirt of the carving. Available in various colors and designs. Each is an original. Prices range from $100 to $125.
